The Sitting Room is a comfortable gathering-place for family &
friends in the evening. A treasured collection of vintage wool blankets
is ideal for warding off chills on long winter nights.
Bright, warm & cool contrasting colours & textures add interest.
As evening approaches; golden light spills across the red floral chintz
draperies & the blue shirting-stripe shades, glowing with the last rays
of the sun setting over Lake Michigan.
This wing-chair was salvaged from a neighbor's attic; reupholstered
& refitted, it enjoys new life in a heavy navy wool plaid. A collection
of vintage throws & ticking-stripe pillows ensures comfort.

The Dining Room is an oasis of comfort & colour, accented by
neutral yet lovely creamware. A tablecloth swathed in denim is at
both colourful & durable. In keeping with the casual theme of this
cottage, I used simple navy-blue cotton for the draperies with red floral
chintz London-style shades to filter light.
Blue & white mattress ticking, salvaged from a church sale, makes
useful, easy-to-use seat cushions & backs; red floral chintz adds a
splash of colour to the arms. Of special note is the red silk shade on
an antique silver floor lamp.
An antique china hutch holds both a model sailboat and the client's
collection of vintage creamware, plus a special English tea service.

The Master Bedroom is a delightful mélange of sun-washed denim,
chambray, tartan plaids & softly shaded florals.
An antique wrought-iron bed and a charming Man-in-the-Moon
mirror ensure a gentle night's slumber. The client's collection of
teddy-bears playfully abound in this casual retreat.
A heavy cable-knit blanket in midnight blue cotton ensures warmth
even during the coldest nights.
This antique chest of drawers, bench-made of solid walnut, boasts
weathered brass hardware and features a collection of photographs in
vintage silver frames.
A very old, very precious Persian carpet is the perfect backdrop to this
contemporary bedskirt in cool blue washed chambray.
Pinecones gathered on
hikes along the sand
dunes cluster in an
antique silver bowl.
The Guest Bedroom is a crisp & cool space, furnished in red, white
& blue, softened for weekend use.
Red quilting, blue & white ticking, & even a blue floral Provençal
chintz are all combined to create a refreshing & inviting look.
Vintage buffalo-plaid wool blankets & white-painted antique
furniture are charming yet casual.
This combination of blue Provençal chintz, a deep red buffalo-plaid
wool blanket, and diamond-quilted blue & white ticking is
irresistible & comfortable.
Even the rug in this charming bedroom is part of the overall scheme;
in deep red cotton braid, it anchors & organises the white-painted
bedroom furniture.

This charming summer cottage, nestled on the bluffs of St Joseph, overlooking Lake Michigan, was designed as a comfortable weekend home for a
newly married couple living in Chicago, seeking a warm & inviting retreat from the city.
The architecture of this house was quite simple, derived from traditional beach-front vernaculars, and, as such, presented an unobtrusive backdrop
for the interiors that were created. The guiding principle to the design was comfort, warmth and relaxation.
The overall colour scheme of deep red & blue denim was accented by touches of creamy white and yellow.
Many of the furnishings were discovered while perusing local antique shops, junkyards & tag sales; we found some really wonderful pieces!
With an imaginative eye, many of pieces were reupholstered, refurbished & repainted in a new, simple use from their past.
I really loved this house, and miss it terribly.
